About My Big Important Words.

By on

I started this year explaining why I like the word “awesome”.

“I like to use the word “awesome” instead of “felicitous” as I like to appeal more to people who like passionate words over expensive sounding ones.”

Couple of days later, I tell you

“Although writing in a style that sounds authoritative (“You must do this!”) attracts a larger audience, providing advice that respects the comfort zone of the other is more effective in real life.”

So. True.

And than. In my previous posting I go all “Reputation Space / Project Space” on you.

Big Important Words. Yeah. I know.

So, I am no exception to the social mechanisms discussed :)

This “Spaces” thing is about how we operate in a world where online and offline are influencing each other.

Instead of Spaces, I’ll talk about “Stadium / Living Room“.

Ok?

  1. Lets talk a little bit about spaces. Having just joined Twitter in order to be current with developments about a particular event I became aware of an issue with communications on this, or any project. There was no agreed upon set of methods of communications between the various team members & stakeholders. Some was by e-mail, some by twitter, some by shared space on a website, but the plan did not specify who would communicate what to whom by which method. I subscribed to Twitter because I was missing some of the information I needed to do my part in a timely manner. It’s obvious now, there should have been a published set of communications capabilities & preferences for each team member & stakeholder & that should have been done before the communications plan was adopted. It’s too easy to assume capabilities & preferences. What we have here is a failure to communicate. That failure was not because of a lack of capability, since at least one of the communications methods would work for each party, but because of lack of coordination between needs & capabilities. It’s important to agree beforehand on what method(s) will be used to communicate each set of information for each interested party, & with what frequency each communications channel will be updated.

Hi Ray, yeah, you should all be using the same line to receive the message. That is so true. Yes, it is all about creating frictionless communication, but the main purpose of communication is to get an entire message from a sender to a receiver. Always :)

Thanks for bringing this up. I hope you consider dropping in a comment about Twitter after a couple of days / weeks using it. Curious what your take on it is.
