Ah. First rays of sun. Good day to talk about myself. No, it’s not Wednesday. Not even Friday.

This months edition of PM Network magazine has a nice article about Project Managers and Social Media: “PMPs on FB? OMG!“.

Even if my name wasn’t mentioned (of course it is :) ) I would promote the article: it features Kimberly Wiefling! Reason enough to read it.

  1. Yes, social media is used to great advantage in many domains. Even in our defense world we “live on IM, SharePoint, and other shared repositories.”

But how exactly does social media get connected with executing the project activities on a day to day basis in the absence of face-to-face meetings.

If I follow your logic, the social media movement is in direct violation of the Agile Manifesto. People over Processes and Tools.

Bas, surely your name deserves mentioning!
How about changing the title of the graph from Social Media Pool to Social Media Pond? What bells then ring in your head?

  3. Bas de Baar says:

@Glen: thanks for dropping by. social media relates the same to execution as communication does. In my opinion face-to-face communication doesn’t have to take place 100% of the time.

@Ali: I know what you referring to. And yes, the fishpond metaphor is very relevant here, and shaped a lot of my thinking.

@Ryan: thanks for the ref! appreciated.
